Four decades of archival work on the pioneers, settlers, and soldiers of the Niagara Frontier.
Joseph Anthony Buscaglia was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. Growing up, he was fascinated by local history, and that early interest grew into a lifelong passion for researching the stories of Western New York's first pioneers and the tumultuous era of the War of 1812.
His expertise lies in historical research, with a focus on the early settlers of Western New York, the Holland Land Company, and the events surrounding the War of 1812 on the Niagara Frontier.
His approach draws on archival deeds, military records, land surveys, newspaper accounts, and rare photographs — material that often sits unexamined in county archives and historical society collections. That patient work has brought to light stories long overlooked by mainstream history, and has in several cases overturned assumptions repeated locally for generations.
Each book and research project represents years of inquiry undertaken without institutional backing, in service of the communities whose history deserves to be told. Findings are published both as books and as freely available online archives, so that the primary sources behind each conclusion remain open to anyone who wants to examine them.
Buscaglia speaks regularly to historical societies, museums, and community organisations across Western New York, and publishes under his own imprint, Antiquarian Press.
